Mathematics — first biennium · Monomials
To multiply two monomials, multiply the coefficients using the correct sign rule; then add exponents for every variable that appears in both factors. Variables that appear in only one factor remain in the result with their exponent.
−2 · 3 = −6; x² · x = x³; y · y³ = y⁴.
When multiplying powers with the same base, the exponents are added, not multiplied.
In this lesson: Multiply monomials by combining coefficients and adding exponents of powers with the same base.
You can already assume: Normal form, laws of exponents and sign rules.
