Mathematics — first biennium · Monomials
In an expression with monomials, rules are not applied simply in the order they appear. Resolve parentheses first, then powers, then multiplication and division from left to right; only afterwards combine additions and subtractions of similar monomials.
First 2x²·4 = 8x²; then 3x² + 8x² = 11x².
Resolve the parentheses first: 3x². Then 3x²·3x = 9x³.
1) parentheses → 2) powers → 3) products and quotients from left to right → 4) addition and subtraction of similar terms.
In exercises containing a variable in the divisor, that variable is assumed to be non-zero, as is standard in school-level monomial division.
In this lesson: Plan and simplify mixed monomial expressions while respecting precedence, parentheses and normal form.

Do not calculate everything at once. First identify the next operation required by the hierarchy, perform it, normalize the intermediate result, and continue.
ConceptStep separates what is required from what is recommended or useful as reinforcement. Only required prerequisites block your progress.
Relationships: solid line = required · dashed line = recommended · dotted line = reinforcement.
