What you need to know before the exercises

In this lesson: Translate verbal relationships into symbolic expressions while preserving structure and parentheses.

How to proceed: Do not translate word by word. Find the main block first: for example, “three times the sum” means the whole sum must stay grouped.

You can already assume: Variable, constant and algebraic expression.

Try it now

Translate into an expression: “Half the sum of x and 4”.
