Mathematics — first biennium · Lesson
A vector in the plane has two components. Adding vectors means adding corresponding components separately.
Prerequisites: Coordinates and distance
Goal: Represent vectors by components and add them in the plane.
In this lesson: Represent vectors by components and add them in the plane.
New concept: A vector in the plane describes displacement, direction and orientation. Its components (vx,vy) give the horizontal and vertical displacement; vectors with the same components are equal even when drawn in different positions.
How to proceed: Keep the two directions separate: add horizontal components first, then vertical components.
You can already assume: Coordinates and distance.
