Mathematics — first biennium · Lesson
Two groups can have the same centre but different spread. The range measures the distance between maximum and minimum.
Prerequisites: Mean, median and mode
Goal: Understand range and compare datasets with the same centre but different spread.
In this lesson: Understand range and compare datasets with the same centre but different spread.
New concept: Spread describes how dispersed the data are. The range is the simplest measure: maximum−minimum. Two datasets can have the same mean but different ranges, so the same centre does not imply the same distribution.
How to proceed: Compute maximum minus minimum for each group. The same mean does not imply the same distribution.
You can already assume: Mean, median and mode.

Compute maximum minus minimum for each group. The same mean does not imply the same distribution.
Data / situation: A: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. B: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10.
