Mathematics — first biennium · Lesson
In y=mx+q, m is the slope and q the y-intercept. Two points on the line determine m as a ratio of changes.
Prerequisites: Linear functions and coordinates
Goal: Find and interpret slope, intercept and points of a line.
In this lesson: Find and interpret slope, intercept and points of a line.
New concept: Two non-vertical lines are parallel when they have the same slope. They are perpendicular when their slopes multiply to −1, meaning they are negative reciprocals.
How to proceed: Read m as the coefficient of x and q as the constant term; to check a point substitute its x-coordinate in the equation.
You can already assume: Linear functions and coordinates.
